I was born in Sancti Spíritus, Cuba, in March of 1989. Probably a cold day—makes sense, because I’ve always felt cold. But 1989 was also a turning point in world history: the year communism began to fall in its imperial form. Maybe that’s why I’ve always carried the urge to break out, to stand on my own.
